Rotarians in First World countries like Australia often work to provide assistance to those in countries less fortunate through programs like  Rotary Austalia World Community Service, Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children, Rotary Foundation, and Polio Plus.

In 2018 and 2019 things worked the other way: drought-stressed communities and rural workers in the Parkes local government area (LGA) benefitted from donations made by Australian and international Rotary clubs.

The Rotary Club of Parkes was chartered on March 27, 1939. That same year Poland was invaded on 1st September marking the outbreak of World War II.

Rotary clubs are self-governing but also form part of Rotary International. National and international networks enable Rotary clubs and Rotary members to pursue service work not only in their local community but also nationally and internationally. We are fortunate to live in a relatively wealthy country, so our national and international work is usually focussed on helping others less fortunate. However, during the last drought, the Parkes local government area benefitted from over $90,000 of aid provided to distressed farm households. $10,000 was contributed by Parkes Rotary club while the rest came from other Australian Rotary Clubs and the Australian Government. Now Parkes Rotary is involved with other clubs, both national and international, in bushfire recovery efforts.
